Senior Care Outreach and Education Program

senior careFunded by the Mercer County Office on Aging, the Senior Health Promotion, Outreach, and Assistance Program at the Henry J. Austin Health Center provides health education services to persons 60 years of age and older.

The emphasis of the Senior Health Promotion, Outreach, and Assistance Program is health promotion, disease prevention, health screening, and senior life enhancement through workshops and seminars. The program focus is directed at Mercer County minority seniors who are economically and medically disadvantaged.

All workshops are free!

Workshops are conducted at low income senior housing complexes, senior citizen centers, and faith-based organizations.

All workshops are conducted by certified physicians, licensed nurses and health care professionals.

A buffet luncheon, educational materials and door prize drawings are provided at each workshop.

Some of the workshops being provided include:

  • Blood Pressure Screenings
  • Cholesterol and Hypertension
  • Dental workshop & screening
  • Diabetes / Heart Disease
  • Diabetic Testing
  • Exercise Class and Nutrition
  • Importance of health screening/testing and safety issues
  • Pain Management: Arthritis
  • Seniors at Risk: HIV / AIDS
  • Vision Screening and Workshop
  • Flu Prevention / Hand Washing
  • Flu Shot Clinic (as available)
