Austin Center is the only New Jersey site selected to participate
in Pfizer’s Sharing the Care program. As a result, hundreds
of patients at Austin Health Center have received free medications.
Austin providers and nursing staff are able to assist eligible patients
in enrolling in this program effortlessly during a regular, routine
medical visit.
Pfizer describes this national program as follows:
“Many doctors struggle to help their uninsured, low-income
patients get the medicines they need. For these patients, purchasing
medicine can be a hardship. They often are faced with choosing
between medicine, food, a winter coat or even shelter.
A National Need, An Innovative Solution
Pfizer is deeply committed to removing obstacles to quality health
care. In 1993, Pfizer stepped forward to address this critical
need by creating Sharing the Care, a unique partnership joining
Pfizer, the National Governors' Association and the National Association
of Community Health Centers. This partnership is regarded as the
‘gold standard’ for successful public/private partnerships
for pharmaceutical access. Each partner plays a vital role in
the program's ongoing success.
Through Sharing the Care, Pfizer donates its most advanced medicines
to low-income, uninsured patients through a network of over 380
federally-qualified community, migrant and homeless health centers
across the U.S. From inner-city neighborhoods to rural communities,
eligible patients receive their medication in the same way as
other health center patients -- with a written prescription at
the health center pharmacy.
Sharing the Care has helped more than 2 million low-income patients
to lead healthier, more productive lives.”
